How do you fill hydraulic fluid in a tractor?
Change the fluid
- Drive the tractor to let the engine warm-up.
- Get your hydraulic equipment ready.
- Remove the drain plug to drain the fluid.
- Clean the screens.
- Replace the filter.
- Place the plug back in.
- Refill with hydraulic fluid.
- Let the engine run for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
What kind of hydraulic fluid does a Massey Ferguson use?
The recommended oil for the transmission/rear axle/hydraulic system is SAE 90 wt. mineral oil.
Where is the hydraulic filter on a Massey Ferguson 35?
The oil is used in the hydraulics – check and clean the filter. It is located behind the PTO lever plate.
What is the difference between tractor fluid and hydraulic fluid?
A: No difference – just terminology. Hydraulic Fluids work on straight hydraulic systems, such as: Backhoes, hydraulic jacks, hydraulic vane & gear pumps, and hydraulic reservoirs. Tractor Fluids function as: a transmission fluid, wet brake fluid, power steering fluid, and, hydraulic oil for the power take off.
Are all tractor hydraulic fluid the same?
In most modern tractors, especially those built after 1980, the hydraulics and transmission draw fluid from the same reservoir. Different tractor manufacturers have different specifications for the trans- hydraulic fluids that should be used in their equipment.
Is hydrostatic oil the same as hydraulic fluid?
Sinopec Low Temperature Hydraulic Oil is a hydrostatic fluid intended to maintain its viscosity where there is a wide variation in ambient temperature. It’s a multipurpose hydraulic, suitable for most hydraulic needs.
Can I use oil instead of hydraulic fluid?
Engine oil can work satisfactorily as a hydraulic fluid. However, if a multigrade engine oil is being used in the hydraulic system specifically for its high viscosity index (VI), then it’s not the correct solution. The reason is the additives used to improve viscosity index.
Can I use ATF instead of hydraulic fluid?
The general answer to this question is yes! It is usually possible to use automatic transmission fluid instead of hydraulic fluid. Both of these formulas are designed to lubricate moving parts and to act as coolants within their systems. This won’t cause a problem if you use ATF in your hydraulic system.
How does Massey Ferguson lift work?
When oil enters the ram cylinder it forces the piston forward and the arms are raised. When the operator places the lever in the down position the lift covers mechanism closes the pumps control valve and the pumps pressure is dumped back into the diff housing.

What kind of oil goes in a Massey Ferguson tractor?
Oils Suitable For Ferguson Tractors: 15w/40 Engine Oils 10w/40, 10w/30 Engine Oil – SUTO 15w/30, 10w/30 Transmission Fluid – Hydraulic Oil – EP80w/90, EP85/140 Axle Oil.
Where does oil go in Massey Ferguson 135?
On the left side of the engine, on the front gear cover, just ahead of the injection pump is the oil filler pipe with a cap on it. When the cap is removed, you can see the timing gears through the hole. This is where the engine oil is replenished.
Where does the oil go in a Massey Ferguson 165?
How to Add Oil to a Massey 165 Tractor
- Park the Massey 165 tractor on a level location.
- Allow the tractor to cool for several hours so all the oil settles back into the engine block.
- Locate the oil fill plug and oil dipstick on the right side — from the driver’s seat prospective — of the engine block.
