What is the point gap on a Ford 8N tractor?
The correct point gap for a front distributor is 0.015″. For a side distributor it is 0.025″.
How do Points work on a tractor?
It’s the same on a tractor. The points just open and close on a cam inside the distributor to transmit an electric charge to the sparkplug(s). Just as the points begin to open the coil releases it’s charge to whatever sparkplug is in firing position. The distributor handles that.
How do you adjust a carburetor on a Ford 8N tractor?
For a new or rebuilt carb, I use the following bench adjustments to start:
- 1—Turn the IDLE SPEED screw all the way out and then turn it in slowly until it just makes contact with the pin and the throttle plate is fully closed.
- 2—Turn the IDLE MIXTURE screw all the way in and then back out ONE turn from the bottom.
How do I check my dwell points?
Measuring the dwell angle If you have just fitted new contact-breaker points, set them to approximately the right gap with a feeler gauge. With the dwell meter connected, start the engine and let it settle to a smooth tickover. If it will not tick over steadily, check the cause(s) and rectify any faults.
